“And David assembled all Israel at Jerusalem to bring up the ark of the Lord to its place which he had prepared for it. David gathered together the sons of Aaron and the Levites: of the sons of Kohath, Uriel the chief, and 120 of his relatives; of the sons of Merari, Asaiah the chief, and 220 of his relatives.” 1 Chronicles 15:3-6

What is a task you knew you needed help for? Some tasks we realize quickly we cannot do on our own. When David recognized it was time to bring the ark of the Lord to its place, He knew this needed to be done as a community. The ark was specially crafted with God’s design, by God’s instruction, and would be for God’s people. David included all the people in this work not because it was a tedious task but because it was a corporate opportunity to celebrate what God had done together.

When we use our gifts for God’s glory, it benefits the whole body of Christ. We don’t serve God in isolation, trying to complete every task on our own; we serve alongside other followers of Christ. Music is an example of one way we collectively celebrate what God has done. Every instrument played, every word sung, and every hand clap all contribute to praising God. Whatever your gift, God has given you the body of Christ as a place to be encouraged in your gifts and use them to communicate the one unifying message of who He is to one another and to the world around you.

  • What are some of gifts you have been able to use alongside other Christians? What was that experience like?
  • Why are we prone to try to do things by ourselves? Why is it valuable to use our gifts together?
  • Pray and thank God for the people around you that receive your gifts and contribute their own as you collectively worship God.
