“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.” – John 14:26
The Holy Spirit isn’t just a theological concept. He’s our active, present Helper who guides us into obedience every single day. Jesus left Him specifically for this purpose: to teach us and remind us of everything Christ commanded. But here’s the key question: can the Holy Spirit remind you of something you’ve never learned? This is why spending time in God’s Word, being part of a community of believers, and engaging in discipleship matters so much. The Holy Spirit works with what’s already been planted in our hearts, bringing Scripture back to our minds exactly when we need it.
Think about those moments when you’ve been somewhere you shouldn’t be, about to do something you know isn’t right, and suddenly there’s that conviction inside you. That’s the Holy Spirit at work, reminding you who you are and whose you are. He doesn’t just convict us of sin, He helps us fall in love with Jesus by teaching us about Him and reminding us of His character. The more we fill our hearts and minds with Scripture, the more material the Holy Spirit has to work with in guiding us toward obedience. This is a personal commitment to Jesus, but it’s not meant to be an alone walk. We need each other, and we need the Spirit’s constant guidance.
Reflect:
- When was the last time you clearly sensed the Holy Spirit’s conviction or guidance in your life?
- How consistently are you filling your heart with God’s Word so the Holy Spirit has truth to bring back to your remembrance?
- Ask the Holy Spirit to make you more sensitive to His voice and to help you recognize when He’s speaking truth, conviction, or encouragement into your life.
