“Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.” John 17:24

This is Jesus’ desire: that you would be with Him. Not just someday in eternity, but in an ongoing, intimate relationship now that culminates in seeing His full glory later. He’s preparing a place for you, and He can’t wait for you to see what He sees, to experience the love that’s existed between the Father and Son since before creation began. The word “see” here means to observe with sustained attention, like standing at the edge of a volcano as the clouds part and you’re left speechless at the beauty.

Right now, we get glimpses of God’s glory. We see it in creation, in answered prayers, in transformed lives, in the unity of believers working together. But these are just previews, like watching the curtain pull back for a moment before it closes again. Jesus is inviting you to the full show. He’s saying, “I want you with Me so you can see everything.” Until that day comes, we have the privilege of making His name known. We can’t stand the thought of people not knowing Jesus, not reading His Word, not experiencing His love. So we translate Bibles, we share our stories, we serve on mission, and we live as ambassadors of the King. We make His name known because He first made it known to us.

Reflect:

  • How does knowing that Jesus desires to be with you change your perspective on your relationship with Him?
  • Who in your sphere of influence still needs to know the name of Jesus, and how might God be calling you to make Him known to them?
  • Thank Jesus for His desire to be with you. Ask Him to give you His heart for those who don’t yet know Him, and pray for opportunities to make His name known this week.
