“We exhorted each one of you and encouraged you and charged you to walk in a manner worthy of God, who calls you into his own kingdom and glory.” (1 Thessalonians 2:12)

Walking implies relationship and conversation. When you walk with someone, you’re spending time together, getting to know them, moving in the same direction. Paul is calling the Thessalonians to walk in a way that reflects their new identity as citizens of God’s kingdom. This isn’t about perfection. It’s about direction. It’s about letting your life show that you belong to Jesus, that you’re headed somewhere eternal, and that this temporary world isn’t your final home.

Here’s the challenge: Christianity can’t just be something you add to your life like a hobby or a club membership. It has to become your identity. When you walk worthy of God, you’re living in a way that says, “I’m his, and he’s mine, and that changes everything.” This means your decisions, your relationships, your money, your time, all of it gets filtered through your citizenship in God’s kingdom. It means when you mess up (and you will), you don’t hide or pretend. You confess, you repent, and you keep walking with Jesus. Authenticity, not perfection, is what draws people to the gospel.

Reflect:

  • What does it practically look like for me to “walk worthy of God” in my current season of life?
  • Are there areas where I’m trying to keep one foot in God’s kingdom and one foot in the world
  • Pray for the courage to fully embrace your identity as a citizen of God’s kingdom, letting that reality shape every part of your life.
