This statement is trustworthy; and concerning these things I want you to speak confidently, so that those who have believed God will be careful to engage in good deeds. These things are good and beneficial for people.
Who in your life is constantly serving and loving others? It can be rare to see extraordinary love that persists in all moods and circumstances. Paul gave this encouragement to Titus twice in this chapter to emphasize this aspect of our faith. The good deeds we do are not only honoring to God for our own benefit but are also opportunities for people to see God’s work in us. Small deeds from holding the door to bringing a meal or encouragement in a hard time or helping a stranger are small testimonies of what God is doing in your life.
Second Timothy 3:16-17 says, “All Scripture is inspired by God and beneficial for teaching, for rebuke, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man or woman of God may be fully capable, equipped for every good work.” God has not us left alone to do these good deeds on our own strength but given us His Word and the Holy Spirit to equip us and guide us to every good work. His call is to live engaged in good deeds toward all people regardless of if they are recognized or not. He has transformed us to be like Him so we can be living testimonies in all we do.
- How often do you engage in good deeds, even when you get nothing in return? Is this difficult or easy for you?
- Who do you feel resistant about doing good deeds for? Why?
- Pray and ask God to open your eyes to opportunities you have today to glorify Him through good deeds.
