Now the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “See, I have called by name Bezalel, the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. And I have filled him with the Spirit of God in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all kinds of craftsmanship, to create artistic designs for work in gold, in silver, and in bronze, and in the cutting of stones for settings, and in the carving of wood, so that he may work in all kinds of craftsmanship.”
We all have personal interests and specific skills. When we consider being equipped by God, it is easy to think about those skills in terms of teaching His word, praying, or even giving good counsel. However, God gives us
other gifts that we don’t consider spiritual. We struggle to see how those gifts fit in with our faith or how to even bring the two together.
God equipped Bezalel with His Spirit in the ways we would expect like wisdom, understanding, and knowledge. But Bezalel was also skilled in all kinds of craftsmanship that we might not consider spiritual or being from God. Scripture ties these ideas together to show us that all these gifts came from God and all these gifts can be used for God’s glory. Romans 11:36 says “For from Him, and through Him, and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen.” Every part of us, including our giftedness is from God, sustained through Him, and designed for His glory. Recognizing God as the great gift giver is our first step in figuring out how He is leading toward using our specific gifts for His glory.
- What are some ways you have been gifted that you might not immediately consider as
spiritual? - How might God use these areas for His glory?
- Pray and ask God to use all your abilities to glorify Him.
