“How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? How will they preach unless they are sent?” – Romans 10:14-15
We live in a results-driven world. At work, you need to hit metrics. With your kids, you want to see progress. In your personal life, you measure success by visible outcomes. So when you step out in faith to share the gospel or serve on mission and don’t see immediate results, you can feel like you’ve failed. But here’s the truth that sets you free: your job is obedience, not outcomes. God doesn’t call you to change hearts (that’s His job). He calls you to go, to preach, to be sent. The results are up to Him, and His timeline often looks very different from yours.
Think about the global workers who labor faithfully for years without seeing the whole fruit of their ministry. Think about the person who shares Jesus with a friend who doesn’t respond right away, or maybe ever in their lifetime. Does that mean their obedience was wasted? Absolutely not. When you trust God with the results, it takes the crushing pressure off your shoulders. You don’t have to have a performance-driven faith where your worth is tied to visible success. You simply have to show up, speak up, and trust that God is working in ways you can’t see or measure. Your faithful obedience today might be planting seeds that won’t bloom until years from now, and that’s okay. God sees the whole picture; you just need to be faithful in your part.
Reflect:
- In what areas of your spiritual life are you measuring success by visible results rather than faithful obedience?
- How would your approach to sharing your faith or serving others change if you truly believed that God is responsible for the results, not you?
- Surrender to God any disappointment or discouragement you feel about “unsuccessful” attempts to share your faith or serve Him, and ask Him to help you focus on obedience rather than outcomes.
