“. . . the anointing oil also, and the fragrant incense for the Holy Place, they are to make them according to everything that I have commanded you.” Exodus 31:11
If you were to have a distinguished guest visit to your home, such as royalty or a celebrity, you would likely prepare differently for their visit than you do for a visit from a close friend. You would clean meticulously and make sure that everything was perfect for this person because you had a once in a lifetime opportunity to host him or her. Comparatively, we may welcome a close friend or family member with little prep in advance, comfortable with their seeing our natural living conditions.
When God instructed His people in the details of the tabernacle, it was diligent preparation for this unique place to dwell with Him. Throughout Scripture, God is diligent about the details of the lives of His people to set them apart to walk with Him. Walking with Him in the details of our lives is not always easy, but it is always worth it. It can be easy to lose focus when we have been Christians for some time, but God is growing us each day and is ready to teach us to new ways of following Him and seeing Him at work in the world.
- What details of God’s Word are hard for you to follow? How do you respond when you hit those challenges?
- What does it look like to give your relationship with God priority over anything else?
- Pray and ask God to help you remember the authority He holds in your life and to help you follow Him in the details daily.
