“Or what woman, if she has ten silver coins and loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, because I have found the coin which I had lost!’ In the same way, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

What gets you really excited? How do you express that excitement? Some of us jump for joy, share with others, or even throw a party. These moments are often all-consuming. What feels like an average day can turn into a great one when we receive exciting news. Our outlook shifts and our spirits are lifted.

God has sought us, bought us, and redeemed us at a great price. He draws near to us in the hard moments, hears our cries for help, and helps us put the pieces of faith together. He has moved heaven and earth to seek and save the lost, and He invites us into that adventure and joy. In today’s parable, the woman invited others to share in her joy.

Just as the woman shared with her neighbors, we should also take joy in the way God is working in the lives of others. What would change if we were personally invested in the way God was working in others? God’s work of redemption in people’s lives is the best thing to be excited about. He invites us to take a vested interest in others and pour into them. We are called to join Him in His work of seeking and saving the lost every day.

  • Who is a friend or family member who does not know God? As an ambassador from God, how can you invest in and love that person?
  • Is God’s work in other people’s lives exciting to you? How can you take time to listen to the stories of others to learn how God is working?
  • Pray for those you know who do not know Jesus as Lord. Ask God to transform their hearts and use you to point others to Him.
