“. . . the tent of meeting, the ark of testimony, the atoning cover that is on it, and all the furniture of the tent, the table and its utensils, the pure gold lampstand with all its utensils, and the altar of incense, the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils, and the basin and its stand, the woven garments as well: the holy garments for Aaron the priest and the garments of his sons, with which to carry out their priesthood. . .” Exodus 31:7-10

Some people love to dream and don’t really worry about the details as they explain the different concepts that come to mind. Other people are wired completely opposite: They can’t see the big picture as clearly, but they are detail-oriented and very meticulous about ensuring each step is taken care of along the way. Our God is greater and bigger than anything we can imagine. He doesn’t fit into the categories we are limited to. He sees all of history, the big picture, but also knows every detail. He sees and cares about every detail that may seem unimportant or doesn’t fit how we would expect.

In today’s passage, He equipped craftsman to create the tabernacle. God created us in His image to live with Him perfectly, but after the fall in Genesis 3, people were separated from the close relationship with Him that we were designed for. He has taken great care in His plan for our redemption. This is the place He is making to be with His people to experience His presence again. At each point in history, God is working in the big narrative, but He is also working in the details. We join in the work He is doing as we come to Him in surrender and walk with Him each day.

  • What are some ways you have seen God involved in the big picture and in the details of your life?
  • How does God’s care for the big picture and the details affect the way you walk with Him?
  • Pray and thank God for being involved in the big picture and in the details of His redemptive story.
