“Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war… On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.” (Revelation 19:11, 16)

Jesus is coming back, and when He returns, it won’t be as a humble baby in a manger. He’s returning as a warrior king, ready to judge and rule. This might feel uncomfortable if we’ve only thought about the gentle, forgiving Jesus. But we need the full picture. Our Savior is also holy, just, and powerful. He’s coming to make all things right, to end evil, and to collect His bride. For those of us in Christ, this isn’t something to fear. It’s our greatest hope.

Living with the reality of Christ’s return changes everything. Just like the sermon mentioned preparing a hospital bag for a baby’s arrival, we need to prepare our hearts for our King’s return. We don’t know when it will happen, but we can be ready. This means living each day with eternity in mind. It means making decisions based on His coming kingdom, not just our temporary comfort. When you wake up tomorrow, remind yourself: Jesus could return today. Let that truth shape how you treat your spouse, parent your children, do your work, and spend your time.

Reflect:

  • If Jesus returned today, what would you wish you had done differently this week?
  • How does knowing Jesus is a holy warrior king change your understanding of who He is?
  • Thank Jesus for being both your gentle Savior and your coming King, and ask Him to help you live with the urgency of His return.
